Synchronised swimming
with the Trinity
Three faces appear at my window.
Sketch of three faces peeping above the window ledge?
“Tina! Are you OK?!”
I see concerned expressions, and am puzzled. “Yes. Why? I’m fine.”
“Well, that was a big reveal you made just then. We thought you might be feeling a bit exposed. Out on a limb. For us.”
“No, it’s fine. But a weird thing happened just after I finished. I’d been writing in the lounge - Spotify was playing classical music through my phone. I went to the kitchen to get something to eat and I looked up a Studio 60 scene on my laptop – you know, the Cold Open from the second episode. Matt Perry’s trying to work out how to open the new run of the show but he says it has to be too many things. It’s a great scene about comedy and writer’s block. And then I think if I’m going to play a YouTube episode I’d better switch Mozart off so I go back to the lounge, exit Spotify and then out of nowhere there’s this man singing. In the house. And I can’t work out who it is or how it’s happening. It’s coming from the kitchen and it’s familiar, but it’s not a song I’ve ever searched for on YouTube or Spotify. When I get back to the kitchen YouTube is still open at the Studio 60 page but somehow it’s playing…”
“Your Song,” the three chorus triumphantly together. “Elton John.”
“How wonderful life is, when you’re in the world,” croons Spirit.
I look at them speechless. Then blurt out “I knew it was You. It was completely bizarre. Like my laptop had been possessed.”
They beam. “We just wanted you to know We’re here.”
“Is there nothing You can’t do?!’ I ask, helplessly.
“Lots,” says Jesus as three faces darken. “We’re battling so many terrible situations right now, all over the world. So much evil and horror and pain and grief… The tiniest pixel of play can relieve the pain even if it’s just for a second.”
“Spirit’s been working on the YouTube technique a long time,” Creator adds. “We’re really proud of how she’s enabled it for divine improvisation.”
Spirit smiles her thanks and looks at me. “Would you like to flow with us to the Barrier Reef? To evaluate the coral devastation. We thought you might like to dive alongside with us. If the whales and dolphins are around we could all practise our synchronised swimming.”
“I can’t wait.”
